Outpatient services – Pulmonary Diagnostics Lab
The Pulmonary Diagnostic Lab, or Pulmonary Function Test Lab, is located on the first floor of the medical office building on the South side of the Paradise Valley Hospital campus, 655 Euclid Avenue, National City, 91950.
We employ the All-In-One Intelligent System, VyaireVyntus One. With our staff of talented and experienced diagnostic specialists, this system allows us to conduct spirometry tests, and measure lung volume and lung diffusion capacity with carbon monoxide. We measure:
- How much air you can take into your lungs. This amount is compared with that of other people your age, height, and sex. This allows your doctor to see whether you’re in the normal range.
- How much air you can blow out of your lungs and how fast you can do it.
- How well your lungs deliver oxygen to your blood.
- The strength of your breathing muscles.
The PFT Lab at Paradise Valley Hospital is used, primarily, to diagnose lung diseases, to help manage breathing problems and to help determine a patient’s oxygen needs. Doctors use lung function tests to help diagnose conditions such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis (scarring of the lung tissue), and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
Lung function tests are used to check how well treatments, such as asthma medicines, are working. Also, they are used to check the extent of damage caused by conditions such as pulmonary fibrosis and sarcoidosis.
The PFT Lab is an important resource for those who work in occupations that are potentially harmful to their respiratory systems. Those who require cardiopulmonary assessments before scheduled procedures would benefit greatly from utilizing the PFT Lab.
If you are interested in getting a firmer grasp on your respiratory health, ask your doctor to prescribe a session for you at Paradise Valley Hospital’s Pulmonary Function Test Lab. To learn more about the PFT Lab contact the Paradise Valley Hospital Respiratory Care department at (619) 470-4185.
